The Story Behind EQUAA
My name is Helen Equagoo Cockle, and Volta Radiance is the culmination of ancestral vision, wisdom, and an unwavering pursuit of purpose.
A Legacy of Vision
The name EQUAA honours my great-grandfather, Amenouvo Equagoo, a brave young man who, at just mid-teens in 1879, stepped onto a boat leaving his family in Ghana to pursue education in the United Kingdom.
After many adventures, he settled in Cornwall, establishing roots that would span four generations to reach me.
My mother, Olive, mirrored this courage and vision. At eighteen, she left Jamaica with dreams of becoming a nurse, facing years away from home before she could afford to return. She is the olive sunbird in our logo—vibrant and fearless, a devoted nurturer whose energy helps everything around her flourish.
My mum remains my constant inspiration—tenacious, endlessly resilient, with an irrepressible love for celebrating life. No one leaves her home without a ton of food! This generosity of spirit, this instinct to nourish, lives in every drop of Volta Radiance.
I carry forward this abundance into the world of botanical skincare.

From Curiosity to Creativity
My journey began as an enquiring child, utterly captivated by the flowers in my mother's garden. I would gather her rose petals and make my own rose water, fascinated by how nature's gifts could transform into something beautiful and healing. That early wonder sparked what would become a lifelong passion.
Over the past thirty years, I've devoted myself to understanding the profound relationship between botanical oils, skin, and spirit. I trained in aromatherapy, acupuncture, yoga, and qi gong—learning that true transformation begins when we invite ourselves on a journey of self-discovery and self-love.
Threads That Wove Together
I see life not as separate parts, but rather as a tapestry—each thread forming the next, even when you cannot yet see the pattern. Some threads we dress ourselves, choosing our path deliberately. Others are dressed as we evolve, life's experiences weaving themselves into who we become.
My years as a BBC journalist taught me the importance of rigorous research and meticulous attention to detail—threads I now weave into every formulation. My time in the fashion industry gave me an understanding of aesthetics, luxury, and the importance of products that feel as exquisite as they perform.
And perhaps the most profound thread: motherhood. As a single mama, I've always referred to my wonderful son as "my heart walking"—because that's what it feels like to love someone so completely. Volta Radiance was created during the years he studied for his A-levels, each blend crafted with the same patience and devotion I poured into nurturing him. And now, as he embarks on his own journey at university, my heart is finding new ways to express itself. This oil takes flight into the world just as he does.
When I blend oils for your skin, I do so with that same soul-deep care—the love that knows how to nurture, how to protect, and when to let go so something beautiful can soar.

For years, I've had the privilege of bringing transformative experiences to clients through my hands-on practice. At my clinic, I've offered my signature Volta Gold Method®, massage, and acupuncture treatments. I've taught yoga classes both in the UK and abroad, each one designed to help people love themselves into their full potential.
Every treatment, every session, every moment spent working with clients has deepened my understanding of what people truly need—not just to look beautiful, but to feel nourished, respected, and loved.

Through three decades of practice, I noticed something crucial: melanin-rich skin has specific needs that traditional skincare often overlooks.
